We’re almost through our first month of the roaring ’20s and we’re already seeing food trends take hold! 2019 saw the rise of food from the Pacific Rim, fusion dishes, and low carb meal options. In 2020 however, Korean food looks to dominate, and one common vegetable is making a heroic comeback. Now that we’re officially in 2020 (how!?), we wanted to dig in and see what food trends will be taking over the UAE food scene and what will be left behind in 2019.
Korean Cuisine is Set to Dominate
Towards the end of 2019, we saw a rise in the popularity of Korean food, and it looks like it’s a trend that will dominate the food scene in the UAE this year. From restaurants popping up across Dubai offering an authentic Korean BBQ experience, to an increase in orders of Korean-style food on food delivery platforms, it looks like interest in Korean food will continue to grow. If you want to get into the Korean craze we have a number of Korean dishes on LUNCH:ON. Check out Shabu Shabu for some tasty Korean bibimbap or Wok Boyz for some Spicy Korean wings.
Veganism and Vegetarianism is on The Rise
Veganism used to be a niche (and let’s face it – a little ridiculed) but now the world, more specifically restaurants, are taking vegans seriously. We’ve seen a rise in restaurants offering not one but multiple vegan options on their menu and using it as a selling point. Not only has there been an increase in restaurants adding vegan meals, but there has also been an increase in vegan-only menus! On LUNCH:ON we have a couple fully vegan restaurants like Bloom Vegan Kitchen and restaurants like Pita Pit who started serving vegan options. Have you tried any of our vegan options yet?
Cauliflower is Cool Again
2020 might very well be the year of the underdog; the humble cauliflower is on the rise. Step aside exotic vegetables and step forward cauliflower! Due to the increase in people taking up the Keto diet (and other low carb diets) the cauliflower has become the go-to substitute for all things carbs. From cauliflower rice to cauliflower mash, the humble cauliflower can be used to replace all your favorite carbs without cheating on your diet. Check out Chicken Shop’s Mediterranean Chicken with a side of Mashed Cauliflower or Migos’ Vegan Burrito (it’s filled with cauliflower rice!) to see what this craze is all about.
Continuing from 2020:
Ethical Eating to Continue
We saw the rise of ethical eating during 2019, but it looks like it was just the tip of the ethical eating iceberg. 2020 is set to see more restaurants changing their packaging, reducing plastic cutlery, and finding alternatives to plastic straws. LUNCH:ON is proud to be a part of the environmental movement. In 2019 we gave our users the option to “turn off” cutlery to help reduce plastic waste. This is just the beginning- we created a handy infographic so you can see how LUNCH:ON is helping to combat the environmental issues normally associated with food delivery services and instead create a more eco-friendly alternative. Check it out here.
