5 ways to add more time to your day

While you can’t actually add more time to your day, you can optimize your time to make your day more efficient and save yourself a few hours! It requires a little work and some changes to old habits you may have fostered for years, but it’ll be worth it in the end!

1. Make a plan

Scheduling out your day, even your breaks can help you be more productive and save you time. It sounds easy, but this requires a little work and dedication. Write a to-do list, block out times in your calendar to complete your tasks, create your own deadlines (and stick to them) and you’re sure to find you have more time left at the end of the day!

2. Identify your most productive time 

Knowing when you work the best when you prefer to exercise, and equally important, knowing when your body needs to rest is great at optimizing your day to suit your productivity. If you’re an early morning worker, spend that time getting your hardest tasks out of the way, then when you’re feeling a little less productive in the afternoon you can work on smaller tasks. Equally, if you work best at night, make sure you optimize your day to complete tasks that take less focus and energy so you can focus on the big tasks in your most productive hours!

3. Start your day earlier

This is a no-brainer, but if you really want to add more time to your day waking up early does add, potentially productive, extra hours. Again, make sure you’re optimizing your time to fit when your body works best. If you don’t work well in the morning use the time to exercise or complete house chores!

4. Delegate 

Whether it’s at work with your team or at home with your family, it’s important to remember to delegate. You don’t have to do everything alone (and there really are not enough hours in the day to do it either). Splitting up tasks makes everyone’s life easier, and will save you time and a lot of stress.

5. Tools

You don’t have to do this alone! There are a lot of tools out there that can help you optimize your time and reduce inefficiency. If you find yourself constantly getting off task to check your social media use a time tracker that will restrict access to your accounts once your limit has been reached (there’s a handy list here).
